My Collection: Red velvet Alexis gown

This gown was worn by Joan Collins as Alexis Carrington Colby on "Dynasty."

Joan wore this gown in episode 157 of season 7 "The Ball" and in the following episode 158 of season 7 "Fear."

Alexis wears this gown in many scenes at her "Black & White Ball" for charity.  While everyone else wears their color appropriate black or white evening wear, Alexis makes quite an entrance wearing red.

This gown is red velvet with red satin accents.  The gown has a plunging neckline and back which are held in place with a length of metal wire on either side.  The body of the gown is very structured with a built in corset and a hook tie enclosure at the back waist.  The cap sleeves are embellished with two large rounded pieces of red velvet fabric lined with red satin on the front and back of the gown, with two crescent shaped stuffed pieces of red pleated satin placed in between on either side of the gown.  The rounded velvet pieces at the shoulders have thin pieces of wire sewn inside of them to keep their form and ruffle effect.  The gown has a long rounded train of red pleated satin which is accented with two long pieces of red velvet fabric lined with red satin which form ruffles on either side of the train.

A thin strip of velvet was attached to the back of the gown between the shoulders, most likely as a safety precaution to ensure no wardrobe malfunctions occurred due to the heavy shoulders and very low cut back and front of the gown.  The velvet strip has since been removed.

WANTED: Purple velvet with fur sleeves Alexis dress suit

This has to be one of the more outlandish ensembles Alexis wore on "Dynasty."  A full length purple velvet dress suit with matching purple fur sleeves!  I wouldn't say this is a particularly beautiful piece, but it an interesting piece in that it is so over the top, which is what Alexis' wardrobe was known for.  I love velvet and I love fur, so this costume has that going for, but it's maybe just too much of a good thing in this case.  The scene Alexis wore this costume in is also very over the top as well.  Dex Dexter rips open her top and they proceed to have a very steamy encounter, saxophone background music and all!

WANTED: Purple Sable hostess gown

This purple satin hostess gown was worn by Stephanie Beacham on "The Colbys" and to several events, including Nolan Miller's 1988 fashion show.  The outfit is comprised of a belted long purple satin bustier gown that is completely open at the front, revealing matching purple leggings.  I think this outfit is a bit more elegant as a standard gown, but the addition of the open front and leggings of a hostess gown gives it an interesting and dramatic touch.  When Sable moves from scene to scene the gown flutters and flows behind her.

WANTED: White satin beaded Dominique gown

This is one of the most beautiful Nolan Miller gowns that was worn by Diahann Carroll.  This gown was not worn on "Dynasty", but was used for Diahann's "Dynasty" opening intro, and was worn in an episode of "The Colbys."  It was also worn for several photo shoots.  This gown would rank higher on my want list if it was worn on the original show versus the spinoff.  I especially love the sheer sleeves with floral beading on this gown.  Joan Collins wore a black gown with a similar design concept on "Dynasty" with sheer sleeves, a sheer back, and a fully beaded body.  The sheer sleeves give the appearance that the beaded designs are on the skin of the model, versus being sewn into the fabric, giving it a nude illusion.  The white satin gown and white floral beading look wonderful against Diahann's skin tone.
