My Collection: Red wool herringbone Alexis suit with wide brimmed hat

This suit was worn by Joan Collins as Alexis Carrington Colby on "Dynasty."

Joan wore this suit in episode 112 "Sammy Jo."

Alexis wears this suit in a scene with Steven where she gives him some motherly advice after walking in on him and Luke Fuller having a tense conversation in Steven's office.  Alexis also wears this suit in a second scene out to a business lunch where she runs into Lady Ashley Mitchell and delivers Ashley a warning to stay away from Dex Dexter.

Alexis: Dex is mine-- in the boardroom and the bedroom.

Ashley: Bought and paid for, Alexis?

Alexis: Ive never had to pay for it Ashley... Have you?

This suit consists of a skirt, peplum jacket, and belt all in red wool with a herringbone pattern.  The matching red wide brimmed hat is made of straw with a band in the same material as the suit.  The jacket has shoulder pads and a rounded wide collar that is ribbed with six lines that trace the edge of the collar and extend to the middle of the collar half an inch apart.  The jacket's round buttons as well as the wide belt are lined in the red wool herringbone fabric.  The skirt is knee length with a pleated center slit.

WANTED: Black and white assymetrical lapel Alexis suit

Joan Collins first appeared on "Dynasty" wearing a simple black and white suit with a large dramatic hat.  This striking look really set the tone for the style of Alexis and her character wore many black and white suits throughout the shows run.  Out of the many black and white suits Alexis wore on the show, this is one of my favorites.  It is simple but unique in that it has a lapel on only one side of the jacket.  The contrasting colors of black and white in the jacket, lapel, and skirt gives it a sleek, modern, and edgy look.  The sketch for this suit is stunning, and reveals that a large black and white hat was originally part of this design.  Joan wore the large hat with the suit for promotional pictures but when the suit appeared on Dynasty a small white hat was used instead.  I prefer the dramatic wide brimmed hat of the original design.

WANTED: Black taffeta ruffle Alexis gown

This is another gown that was altered after Joan wore it on Dynasty.  An interior layer of red taffeta was added some time later. Again, the alterations to this gown do not enhance the piece and only detract from the original design.  The gown looks much better in solid black, without the red under layer that makes it resemble a Flamenco dancer's outfit.  Joan wore this gown to several events and also in the opening of Dynasty.  This gown is very 80's, but I think Joan looks terrific in this.  The matching black opera gloves with ruffles at the top add to the drama of the look.  It is not one of my favorites, but still a worth while costume.
